Me and my work
Growing up in the southeast of Ireland, I often am influenced by the surrounding nature, and people I interact with daily. I try to showcase that in some of my work. For every portrait I have done, I try to do a landscape to show my love of the area I grew up in. Because of growing up in the southeast of Ireland, i have a strong connection with my environment.
Although born in Wexford, I have grown familiar with Dublin through my attendance of IADT college in Dún Laoghaire. Through my college years, I have been introduced to other creative individuals in Ireland.
I would best describe my work as a mixture of surrealist and hyperrealist characteristics, with a love of the unknown. Over the last few years, I have been developing my art style in a way to showcase my skills in graphite drawing, with a love of creating new ways of seeing the world.
I use graphite as a medium, due to its greyscale nature. Most likely influenced by my love of black and white photography and film, the idea of making work without the use of colour, is a challenge I tackle still to this day. I believe that just using tone, you can capture the ideas of narrative, emotion, and drama in the work.
